Our Story

How it all started...

Our church  was established in 1908 in the pioneer days of Oklahoma statehood by a group of German immigrants of the Brethren faith. As the story goes, a revival meeting was conducted in a field adjacent to Lost Creek, and it was decided to raise a church on the present-day property on the corner of 80th and Washington. The church went through many changes during its first forty years, including many building upgrades and improvements. The former Evangelical United Brethren church became a United Methodist congregation in 1968 after the two denominations merged.

Expanding the vision...

In the 1970s, Lost Creek had only 20 average worshippers on any given Sunday.  Yet, even this small group was vital and missional, serving our community by hosting large Vacation Bible Schools, cooking for the County Fair, putting on Christmas programs, hosting auctions and other fundraisers, and becoming involved in mission work around the state and world.  Many of these same programs remain a part of our ministry today. As the congregation grew, additional space was needed.  In 1988, we more than doubled the size of our building with fellowship and classroom space.  By the turn of the century, a new sanctuary was needed. In 1997, our current worship space was built.

Solidifying our mission...

Lost Creek entered the 21st century by expanding our mission to include an emphasis on Christian education and service. In 2008, our education wing was dedicated, containing the youth room, SHINE Zone, and small group rooms. In 2016, Lost Creek purchased an 11-acre property in the middle of Perkins that became Oak Park. During the time, Lost Creek began our two long-standing mission partnerships in Alaska and Belize. As our membership grew, so did our hearts and our outreach and service into our communities.

What the future holds...

Because of our location between two rapidly growing towns, Lost Creek has the unique opportunity to serve two communities in one missional context. While providing invitations for Christian discipleship, we serve our two communities in ways that meet the needs of the people around us. As our motto goes, "our hearts are open and our arms are reaching." Our commitment is to continue to empower our congregation to go forth with love, boldness, and compassion.
